The Martinsville Community Unit School District #C-3 Board of Education met in regular session at the Elementary School Library on Thursday, January 22, 2026. President Connelly called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Board members Maxwell and Parcel were absent, while board member Jay Wilhoit arrived shortly after the meeting began at 6:08 p.m. The board advanced a standard agenda, approving the previous year’s audit, setting future meeting dates, and discussing potential facility upgrades before adjourning at 8:50 p.m.
FY25 Audit Approved: During new business, the board was presented with the district’s FY25 Audit. Following a motion by Baird and a second by Hollingsworth, the board voted unanimously among the five present members to formally accept the FY25 Audit.
Facility and Tax Discussions: The board held preliminary discussions regarding significant facility matters, though no formal action or votes were taken during this meeting. The board discussed an Elementary School asbestos and remodel project, as well as the 1% County School Facilities Tax.
Future Board Meeting Dates Set: The board proactively established its regular meeting schedule for the upcoming academic year. Following a motion by Hollingsworth and a second by Wilhoit, the board unanimously approved the set Board meeting dates for the 2026-2027 school year as presented by the administration.
Staff Resignation: Following the evening’s executive session, the board voted to accept the resignation of a district support staff member. Board member Wilhoit made a motion, seconded by Hollingsworth, to accept the resignation of Renee Sowers from her position as part-time Kitchen staff. The motion passed unanimously among present members.
Continuing Education Approved: The board unanimously approved continuing education for staff member Kaitlyn Stephens. The measure was passed following a motion by Wilhoit and a second by Connelly.
Policy Updates First Reading: The board conducted the first reading of the Press Plus Policy Updates, specifically Issue 119 and Issue 120. The extensive policy packages outline updates to dozens of district regulations, including grievance procedures, substitute teachers, graduation requirements, and targeted school violence prevention programs. As this was only a first reading, no vote was required to adopt the changes at this time.
