Advocacy group: End EU’s discriminatory treatment of U.S. tech companies

Advocacy group Public Policy Solutions launched a six-figure ad campaign calling for an end to the European Union’s targeting and discriminatory treatment of American tech and telecom companies, its plea supporting President Donald Trump’s demand for a Section 301 investigation into what it says are unfair EU policies.

Co-founder of Public Policy Solutions John Czwartacki told The Center Square that “the European Union has attacked American innovation for too long; it’s time we fought back.”

“From overreaching regulations and massive fines to baseless investigations, the EU is trying to cripple America’s most innovative companies,” Czwartacki said. “Yet, Europe expects its companies to enjoy unfettered access to the U.S. market.”

Czwartacki stated that “U.S. officials should support President Trump’s bold step to initiate a Section 301 investigation into Europe’s unfair practices and re-evaluate federal contracts with European companies.”

“Failure to stand up for American companies will only strengthen our mutual enemies, weaken our alliance, and harm innovation in America and Europe alike,” Czwartacki said.

In a news release provided to The Center Square, Public Policy Solutions described its six-figure TV and digital ad campaign entitled “Bad Allies” as one that “exposes the European Union for aggressively targeting U.S. tech and telecom companies while expecting unfettered access to the U.S. market.”

Public Policy Solutions called for a Section 301 investigation into European policies that disadvantage U.S. tech companies, a reevaluation of federal government contracts for European companies, and scrutiny of options for reciprocal regulations across all U.S. government agencies, according to the release.

According to Congress.gov, a 301 investigation determines “if the rights of the United States under any trade agreement are being denied, or an act, policy, or practice of a foreign government is burdening or restricting U.S. commerce.”

Public Policy Solution’s 60-second ad is in support of Trump’s “call to fight back against the European Union’s attempts to cripple America’s most innovative companies and calling on the administration to consider equal treatment of European companies operating in the United States,” the release said.

In July, Trump posted on Truth Social that an immediate 301 investigation would be launched into the European Union’s “illegal and highly discriminatory” practice of “‘ROBBING’ American Companies and, in turn, the American Taxpayer.”

“After having fined Apple, for no reason at all, 15 Billion Dollars, Meta, 3 Billion Dollars, Amazon 2.5 Billion Dollars, and many others, we have just been informed that Google, a truly advanced and amazing group, has been fined yet another 1 Billion Dollars, without explanation,” Trump wrote. “This brings the Google total to over 18 Billion Dollars!”

As The Center Square previously reported, the EU is able to fine American tech companies under its Digital Markets Act (DMA) by designating such large companies as “gatekeepers” and then fining them for alleged breaches of the DMA.

Almost all of the “gatekeepers” are American-based, including Meta, Apple and Google.

The Center Square reported that analysts who monitor international policies affecting the U.S. said standing up to the European Union “for trade ‘protectionist policies’ that target and disadvantage American tech companies is ‘justified’ especially as hindering American companies causes more reliance on China.”
