(The Center Square) – U.S. Rep. Mary Miller, R-Ill., and Committee on House Administration Chairman Bryan Steil sent a letter to Champaign County Clerk and Recorder Aaron Ammons, questioning his administration of the coming election after at least 600 ballots were printed with errors where incorrect candidates and races were listed in some jurisdictions.

The lawmakers want answers from Ammons about the printing error, how it occurred, how the county plans to audit and verify future ballots this year, and if his office is investigating the issue.

The clerk’s wife, state Rep. Carol Ammons, is one of the candidates impacted by the ballot error. Both were federally indicted for an alleged kickback scheme by the lawmaker in which she funneled taxpayer funds to local nonprofits employing their daughter and campaign finance issues.
