Illinois Quick Hits: Pritzker blasts Trump’s disaster denial
(The Center Square) – Gov. J.B. Pritzker says Illinois will appeal a decision by the Trump administration to deny the state’s request for a major disaster declaration for eight counties impacted by severe storms in August.
A statement from Pritzker’s office said the president continues to politicize and destroy the integrity of the federal disaster funding process.
IDFPR JOINS SETTLEMENT WITH CRYPTO KIOSK OPERATOR
The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation and 33 other state financial regulatory agencies have reached a $2.5 million settlement with Seattle-based Coinme Inc., a cryptocurrency money transmitter and kiosk operator, for violations of the Bank Secrecy Act and anti-money laundering laws.
As part of the deal, Coinme agreed to terminate its virtual currency kiosk operations by Jan. 1, 2027, or face an additional $4 million penalty. The settlement amount will be allocated among participating states based on transaction volume.

ILLINOIS GAS PRICES RISE
AAA’s average price for regular unleaded gasoline in Illinois rose a nickel on Friday to $4.70 per gallon, virtually unchanged from the previous week and $1.43 higher than it was one year ago.
The national average on Friday was $4.37. Indiana’s average was $3.87.
MORTGAGE RATES RISE
According to data from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, the average 30-year fixed mortgage rate rose in the week ending October 8 to 7.40%, the highest it’s been since November 2023. The average 15-year fixed rate increased to 6.73%.
