MARTINSVILLE, Ill. — Gabe Griffin accounted for four touchdowns and 134 all-purpose yards Friday night as Martinsville outlasted visiting Cerro Gordo/Bement 66-38 in a conference game that produced 104 combined points.

The senior did his damage in every phase. Griffin carried 12 times for 86 yards and three rushing scores, caught a 21-yard touchdown pass from Jaxson Miller, and even threw a 27-yard completion of his own. The Bluestreaks moved to 3-3 with the win, while the Broncos slipped to 2-5.

Cerro Gordo/Bement had the single most productive player on the field in senior Eli Corpus, who put together a 166-yard rushing night on just eight carries — a staggering 20.8 yards per attempt and his first 100-yard game of the season. Corpus also handled the quarterback duties, completing 5 of 10 passes for 25 yards with two touchdowns and an interception, and picked off a pass on defense. His 191 yards of total offense led all players.

But the Broncos could not match Martinsville’s volume. The Bluestreaks got balance from the backfield, with junior Wyatt Washburn adding 29 yards on seven carries and senior Seth Svika chipping in eight yards. Through the air, Miller was efficient, going 3-for-5 for 78 yards and a score, while sophomore Kayden Jenkins hauled in a 21-yard reception and came up with an interception on the other side of the ball.

Cerro Gordo/Bement’s passing game produced one confirmed touchdown strike, a nine-yard connection from Corpus to junior Ayden Tuel. Junior David Bates was the Broncos’ second-leading rusher with 28 yards on six carries, and sophomores Konner Demko and Clark Foss each added a reception.

In total yardage, the game was nearly even — Martinsville finished with 228 yards to Cerro Gordo/Bement’s 221. The difference came in possessions finished, as the Bluestreaks found the end zone repeatedly in a game that never slowed down.

Cerro Gordo/Bement returns home looking to regroup after a fourth straight week in the loss column, while Martinsville evens its record at 3-3 heading into the back half of the conference slate.
