Kannamacher’s Six Aces Fuel Martinsville’s 2-0 Sweep at Sandoval

SANDOVAL, Ill. — Martinsville’s serving line never let Sandoval settle in, and the Bluestreaks turned that pressure into a tidy 2-0 non-conference road win over the Blackhawks on Monday, Sept. 22.

Junior Molly Kannamacher led the service onslaught with six aces on 13 attempts, an ace on better than 46 percent of her serves, and Martinsville piled up 14 aces as a team across the two sets. The Bluestreaks improved to 15-10 on the season. Sandoval fell to 0-18.

Senior Bella Reed matched Kannamacher’s efficiency from behind the end line, delivering four aces on 10 serve attempts while serving at 90 percent. Junior Addison Mcdearmon and senior Trinity Simons added two aces apiece, and both finished with a 90 and 100 percent serve rate, respectively — Simons did not miss on any of her 10 attempts.

The Blackhawks spent most of the night in serve receive, and the passing numbers tell the story. Senior Jena Howell handled 22 receptions, senior Chloe Boothman 21, senior Brooklynn Hodge 17 and senior Shavelle Harden 15. Sandoval’s passers were charged with 17 reception errors as a group, leaving the Blackhawks’ offense scrambling to build anything in system.

When Martinsville did swing, it swung cleanly. Mcdearmon led the attack with four kills on eight swings and a single error for a .375 hitting percentage, and sophomore Charity Hammond matched her with four kills on nine attempts (.333). Simons chipped in two kills on four errorless swings, hitting .500, while junior Hope Hammond added two kills. The Bluestreaks finished with 13 kills on 41 attempts.

Setting duties were shared, with Kannamacher distributing six assists on 17 ball-handling attempts and Mcdearmon adding three.

Defensively, Simons anchored the back row with a team-high five digs, and Mcdearmon added four. Senior Harper Baird was Martinsville’s steadiest passer, taking six serve receptions without an error while adding three digs.

Sandoval’s bright spots came in small doses. Sophomore Kenzee Wright led the Blackhawks with two kills and added the team’s only dig. Harden recorded a kill, and Howell posted a solo block and the lone Sandoval ace. As a team, Sandoval managed three kills on 23 attack attempts with six errors.
