Kannamacher’s Five Aces, Stingy Serving Lift Martinsville Past Red Hill in Two-Set Sweep

MARTINSVILLE, Ill. — The Martinsville serving line did the heavy lifting Saturday night, and the Bluestreaks never had to play a third set.

Martinsville pounded out 13 service aces in a 2-0 conference sweep of visiting Red Hill on Sept. 19, with junior Molly Kannamacher accounting for five of them from the back line as the Bluestreaks improved to 15-10. The Salukis fell to 4-13 on the season.

Kannamacher’s night was the clearest reflection of how the match was won. She served 13 times and ended better than a third of those trips with an ace, added 10 digs — the most by any Bluestreak — and chipped in four assists. The pressure she generated on serve kept Red Hill out of system and gave Martinsville’s blockers and defenders easy reads on the other side.

Junior Hope Hammond was the most efficient attacker on the floor, converting three of her 10 swings into kills with just one error for a .200 hitting percentage. She also served three aces, logged four digs and recorded a solo block, giving Martinsville a contribution in every phase.

Senior Harper Baird handled the bulk of the passing load, taking 14 serve-receive attempts with a single error and digging up nine balls, second only to Kannamacher. Senior Bella Reed contributed two aces and three digs out of the back row.

As a team, Martinsville finished with 14 kills, 11 assists, 33 digs, six total blocks and those 13 aces across two sets — a service and defensive performance that left Red Hill chasing from the start of both frames.
