Davidson, Reed Power Martinsville Past Red Hill in Straight-Set Conference Win

BRIDGEPORT, Ill. — Martinsville needed only two sets to handle Red Hill on the road Sept. 29, sweeping the Salukis 2-0 in a conference match built on efficient hitting at the net and a serving run that kept Red Hill out of rhythm.

Sophomore Austyn Davidson was the most productive attacker on the floor for the Bluestreaks, putting away five kills on eight swings for a .375 hitting percentage and a 62.5 kill percentage — by far the cleanest attacking line in the match. Junior Hope Hammond added three kills on eight attempts, while junior Myah Arney, junior Addison Mcdearmon and senior Trinity Simons each contributed two.

The serving line belonged to senior Bella Reed, who delivered five aces on 12 attempts, a 41.7 ace percentage that produced points in bunches and repeatedly forced Red Hill into scrambled first contacts. Mcdearmon and junior Molly Kannamacher each added an ace, and Kannamacher served at 90.9 percent accuracy with just one error in 11 attempts.

Martinsville’s offense ran through Mcdearmon, who distributed eight assists across the two sets while also leading the attack corps with nine swings. Kannamacher added five assists in a shared setting role, and the two combined for 13 of the team’s 15 assists.

Senior Harper Baird anchored the back row. She led all Bluestreaks with 11 digs — 5.5 per set — and handled 13 serve-receive attempts without an error, giving Martinsville a reliable first touch against Red Hill’s serve.
